RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". It is a format used to publish frequently updated material such as news, blogs or podcasts. Instead of having to regularly visit sites for updated news, you can subscribe and have the latest information sent to your RSS Reader Program. The RSS reader program will alert you when there is new information for you to read. RSS feeds are free content feeds from web sites that contain article headlines, summaries and links back to full-text articles on the web. They are also referred to as webfeeds, RSS feeds, RSS streams, and RSS channels, and are specified in XML format.
To use an RSS Feed; first choose a reader (also called an aggregator). Internet Explorer 7 and Office 2007 have built in readers. There are numerous free readers such as Google Reader, FeedReader, and Newsgator. (Google Reader and Newsgator are web based, FeedReader on the otherhand, is a desktop download.) Second, you will be able to tell a RSS feed by the orange button beside it. It could look like
,
or
. Follow that link and you will be given the option to 'subscribe to this feed'. You can subscribe to more than one feed.
