Recently, the Northwestern Tech family lost an instructor and dear friend, Dieter Karmineke. Dieter had been an instructor at Northwestern Tech for the last 14 years. He passed away after a hard fought battle with cancer. During his 14 year tenure at the Institute, he taught thousands of students, and most importantly, touched so many lives. Dieter had a profound impact on everyone who had the pleasure to know him. All of us at Northwestern Tech will miss seeing his smiling face every morning as we have become accustomed to for so long. Thank you Dieter for all you have done for us and for the students who you gave your all to everyday. You are truly going to be missed by everyone. Rest in peace my friend …

Remember years ago when winter meant three solid months of snow and freezing cold temperatures here in Michigan? Some experts believe that frequent warmer temperatures during the winter months could be the new Michigan winter experience. Snow and 18 degrees one day, and 50 degrees the next. Others believe it is just a fluke and Michigan winters will soon return to being cold and snowy as we have come accustom to from December through February each year. With only a little more than a month remaining in this winter season, it appears as if it will continue its unsual pattern. At least for this year …

Northwestern Technological Institute is pleased to announce that it has recently been approved as a testing facility for the North American Technician Excellence (NATE) Residential/Light Commercial HVAC exams, and we have an exam date scheduled for Saturday, October 20, 2012 (registration deadline is 10/12/12). Technicians who earn NATE certification have proven that they are the finest in the industry. In addition, NATE-certified technicians are typically in greater demand, are more valuable to their employer, and generate more income. There are no education or experience requirements to become certified, but it is recommended by NATE that you have at least one (1) year of experience for Installation certification, and at least two (2) years of experience for Service certification. If you are interested in registering for testing, or would like more information, please contact Kim Acuff at (248) 415-0326.

It’s 90 degrees outside. Everywhere you look, there is a heating and cooling service tech on the road heading to his/her next service call. Whether it be a residential home, or commercial office building, those guys are in high demand. Often times, on hot days, they have service calls lined up, one right after the other. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor (2012-13), job opportunities for HVACR technicians are expected to be excellent, particularly for those who have completed training at an accredited technical school or through a formal apprenticeship.
